Dear Friend of Seattle University Crew:
What a time to be a part of the Program! A year of accomplishments and growth not seen in many years, 2008-2009 proved to be an amazing success. Founded in 1965, SU Crew is currently a “club sport” on campus, and competes with Varsity and club programs from across the western United States.
We work hard to support ourselves. Each student-athlete participates in multiple fundraising events per quarter, ranging from working with City Catering Company for Nordstrom's private events, to working with Ivar's at concession stands at Seahawks games. Each student-athlete also pays $450 in Dues for the year, and covers his or her own team gear/clothing. Plus, we have specific fundraising drives throughout the year, including our 2nd Annual Million-Meter-Row Ergathon (date TBA). All of this helps cover coaches’ salaries, entry fees, clothing and gear expenses, travel costs, and some other costs.
However, YOU are a vital part of the success of the program. It is through the generosity of family, alumni, and friends that we gain equipment (oars, boats, boat equipment, etc), food at regattas, lodging for regattas, and others items/costs. For full time student-athletes, many of whom are also paying for college out of pocket, the cost of Rowing at SU would be prohibitively expensive if it were not for this generosity.
Your gifts, whatever they are, and in whatever form, are essential - and deeply appreciated by all.
SU's Recreational Sports also generously helps the team by providing a facility, through Pocock Rowing Center, and covers the cost of one part-time coach. We humbly thank them for this support.
Become part of the Legacy of Seattle University Crew and help us focus on what is important: our studies, and becoming deeper oarsmen and oarswomen. See below on how!
Current Opportunities to Help SU Crew!
Breaking News 1/3/10: A Set of Oars Named After YOU!
Want your name on a set of oars?
Three much-needed sets of eight oars are available to us at an extremely low price, and we want to utilize this rare naming opportunity!
We will place the name of your choice on each oar of every set of four or eight that you donate to the Team, or on any individual oar you donate.
- $100 per individually-named oar
- $400 for a named set of 4
- $800 for a named set of 8
Donating a set of four or eight oars is especially exciting, as these sets directly complement the boats of the same number (four and eight person boats). Thus, when grabbing oars, the coach would say, "Let's use the <your-name-here> set today!"
Opportunities like these don't come around very often. Plus, of course, donations are tax-deductible.
If you want your name on a set of oars or an oar, let us know - they are available immediately!
How to Donate
Your sponsorship allows us to continue to strengthen ourselves and offer a self-run program of depth, scholarship, and dedication, and enables us to challenge our Varsity and club brethren as equals on the water. Your support has a real effect, so contact us to discuss how you can help out. Here are some ideas:
- Oars – they keep the boats moving - about $100/oar used, $310/oar new (full sets are most useful for equipment turnover)
- Equipment - Cox Boxes, riggers, seats, smaller items - NK Cox Box w/ microphone is $610, $195 per carbon-fiber seat, etc
- Snacks at Regattas - healthy snacks for the team tent - about $100 for full array of fruit, vegetables, grains, drinks, and protein
- Lodging at Regattas - let the team sleep on your floor! We compact very well.
- Regatta Cheering Squad - support us the old-fashioned way... with your voices!
- Coaches’ salary assistance – to give us the skills we need - any amount helps... contact us for exact details.
- Scholarship support – so any SU student can row - $150/person/quarter
- Travel - daily vans, regatta transportation (boat trailer fee, rental truck, student-athlete vans) - contact us for exact details.
